Age Does Make a Difference

I am amazed that the death of President Ford hasn't been mentioned on more blogs. Then while reading a profile I realized that unless the blogger loved history they wouldn't know why his presidency was important and why most people don;t know about this period in our country. It wasn't a proud time for the country. I only pray that there are enough people that can remember and won't allow that to happen again.
God Bless America in2007.

ah yes, the importance of history lessons. hence why we have them, but alas, no one wants to remember them so we keep repeating the same mistakes. I hate politics. A necessary evil...I know.

This was worse than usual politics. When the Vice President is forced to resign and admit he is a crook. Then the president's reelection commitee commit Watergate and then there isa cover-up that goes all the way back to the President.
The only good? thing was a few crooks got God,or so they said.

Joyce - I didn't really understand all that went on at that time when it was happening, but I can remember watching the swearing in of President Ford. My dad (who managed a hotel in Florida) came and got my big sister and I out of my mom's office (she worked with my dad) and took us upstairs to one of the hotel rooms to watch t.v. (something we considered a rare and delightful treat - usually). But in this case, he sat us down and said, "I want you to see this; it is a very important and historical moment. Don't ever forget it." And I haven't. I can still see it in my mind's eye - even the part where Nixon boards the helicopter. It was all rather sad wasn't it.

Ford played a very special role in our nation. I think because it was so short many people don't credit the importance of the role he played during that transitional phase that our nation was in. I appreciate your posts on this; it's good to be reminded about the importance of that time.

Jodi- His time as president was short but when he pardoned Nixon he lowered the "heat". He started the cooling off period. He started the forgiveness instead of fighting. After 25 years in congress he ruined his political career for the country and a friend.
Your fortunate to have a father that wanted his girls to respect and know history.
